Android 3.2 Goes Official

When I reviewed the Acer Iconia A500, I felt that it was let down somewhat by its unpolished OS. This should not be an issue any more though, as Google has updated its tablet OS. Motorola has been the first to roll out the update for itsXoom, while Samsung and Acer are expected to follow suit.

Here are some of the highlights of Android 3.2:

  • Optimizations and refinements across the system for a better user experience.
  • A compatibility display mode will provide a pixel-scaled alternative to the standard UI stretching. Users can now get options such as Stretch to fill screen and Zoom to fill screen. The latter will make phone apps adjust to tablet screens, while reducing pixellation.
  • Media sync from SD card: Apps can now load media files directly from the removable SD card.
